Faculty of Social Sciences Students Win Overall First Prize at the University-Level Teaching Skills Contest

With the aim of continuing to improve the quality of teacher education and strengthening the movement to hone teaching skills among students, Hong Duc University held the Teaching Skills Contest for the 2025–2026 academic year on the morning of January 17, 2026. The contest is a meaningful professional activity that helps put into practice the goal of fundamental, comprehensive education reform in line with the spirit of the 2018 General Education Program. Students from the Faculty of Social Sciences excelled, winning the Overall First Prize.

Guests in attendance included Mr. Trinh Trong Nam, Head of the General Education Department, Thanh Hoa Provincial Department of Education and Training. Representing Hong Duc University were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Viet Bau, Secretary of the University Party Committee; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dau Ba Thin and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Thi Mai, both Vice Rectors of the University; along with representatives from the leadership of the teacher-training faculties, functional departments, and a large number of staff and lecturers.

The contest is an annual activity designed to help students in teacher-training programs apply theoretical knowledge to practice, gradually building and developing the core professional competencies of a teacher in today's educational context. Through the contest, students have the opportunity to network, learn from one another's experience, and strengthen their teaching skills, professional demeanor, and sense of responsibility toward the education profession.

The University-level contest brought together teams from six teacher-training faculties: the Faculty of Education; the Faculty of Natural Sciences; the Faculty of Social Sciences; the Faculty of Foreign Languages; the Faculty of Physical Education; and the Faculty of Engineering, Technology and Communication. Each team represented its faculty's teaching-skills training efforts, demonstrating careful preparation, a strong sense of responsibility, and determination in this important professional activity.

 

The contest consisted of four rounds: Introduction, Pedagogical Knowledge, Pedagogical Situation-Handling, and Public Speaking. Each round was designed rigorously and closely aligned with the practical demands of teaching and education at various school levels, providing a comprehensive assessment of pre-service teachers' knowledge, skills, attitudes, and professional competencies.

In the Introduction round, teams gave an overview of their faculties and training programs through varied and engaging formats, clearly conveying the purpose and significance of the contest as well as the role and mission of teachers today. The round struck a balance between a serious tone and lively energy, helping to spread a sense of responsibility and professional pride among students.

The Pedagogical Knowledge and Pedagogical Situation-Handling rounds focused on assessing professional knowledge, understanding of the 2018 General Education Program, and the ability to handle situations that arise in real educational practice. Many teams demonstrated logical thinking and sound approaches, upholding pedagogical principles, humanity, and educational effectiveness — clear evidence of students' growing maturity in awareness and professional confidence.

The Public Speaking round was the highlight of the contest, where students expressed their views, reflections, and sense of responsibility regarding the challenges facing the teaching profession in modern society. Topics such as teachers' ethical standards, employment challenges, entrepreneurship in education, and the role of pre-service teachers in addressing social issues were argued persuasively, reflecting the maturity, open-mindedness, and dedication of these future educators.

Throughout the contest, the Organizing Committee and the panel of judges noted the teams' serious and creative performances, which met the requirements of each round well. As a result, the Organizing Committee awarded First, Second, and Third Prizes for the Public Speaking round, and presented the Overall First Prize to the Faculty of Social Sciences team; the Overall Second Prize to the teams from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Foreign Languages; and the Overall Third Prize to the teams from the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Physical Education, and the Faculty of Engineering, Technology and Communication.

The 2025–2026 Teaching Skills Contest was an important professional activity that helped improve the quality of teacher education at Hong Duc University. The results achieved will serve as a foundation for the University and its faculties to continue renewing training content and methods, while motivating pre-service teachers to keep learning and honing their skills to meet the increasingly high demands of the education sector in this new era.
